Ceramic coating for a new car

Yes, a new car is a good candidate for ceramic coating, and the sooner the better. The paint is at its best on delivery day, and a coating keeps it that way by making it easier to clean and harder for salt, sap and bird droppings to bond. A new car still needs a proper wash, decontamination and often a light polish first.
Why a new car is worth coating early
A new car has the best paint it will ever have. Everything that happens after delivery is wear, from the first bird dropping to the first winter. A coating slows that down and keeps the surface easy to maintain from the start.
The other reason is the prep. Paint with no damage needs little correction, so the job is simpler than on a car that has been driven for a long time. Waiting means the paint collects swirls and etching that have to be polished out later.
A new car is not as clean as it looks
Even a brand new vehicle carries contamination from transport and from sitting outside on a lot. Rail dust, road film and overspray can be bonded to the paint, and you can often feel it as a rough texture when you run a hand over a clean panel.
We wash the car and clay bar the paint before any film or coating goes on. Dealership handling can also leave light swirls or marks, so we inspect the paint under good light and polish where it needs it. Paint correction is sold together with every coating we apply.
Seven reasons new car owners coat
1. A bond that wax cannot match
A coating bonds to the paint. Wax sits on top and wears off. The coating also guards against chemical staining and the sun for far longer than wax does.
2. Gloss and color depth
We correct the paint first, then coat it. The finish you see afterward is the paint at its best, with deeper color and a harder, glassier shine.
3. Resistance to salt, sap and bird droppings
Road salt, bug acid, sap and bird droppings sit on the coating before they reach the clear coat. You still have to wash the car, but you get more time to do it.
4. Sun protection
Long sun exposure can fade and dull paint, and dark colors show it first. A coating adds a layer between the clear coat and the sunlight.
5. Easier washing
Coated paint is slick and water repellent. Water beads and runs off, dirt lets go more easily, and a wash takes less rubbing, which means fewer wash marks.
6. Value you can see later
A car with clean, glossy paint shows better when it is time to sell or trade it. Original paint in good shape is something a buyer looks at.
7. Coatings go on more than paint
The same coating family covers wheels and glass. Wheel coatings help shed brake dust, and coated glass sheds water for better visibility in the rain.
Pair it with paint protection film
A coating does not stop stone chips. If you want protection from rock hits as well, paint protection film goes on the front of the car and the coating goes over the film and the rest of the paint. Many new car owners do both on the same visit.
A front end package is the usual start. Basic Front covers the front bumper, hood, mirrors, headlights and fog lights. Full Front adds the full front fenders. The Beyond Package adds window tint to the film and coating for owners who want everything done together. Our guide to protecting a new car with paint protection film goes through the film side.
What to bring to the first visit
Bring the car as soon as you can after delivery, and tell us what the dealer has already done to it. Mention any paperwork or protection packages that came with the car, and let us know if you plan to add film or tint so we can plan the order of work.
Film goes on first, then correction and coating, and tint can follow. Planning it as one job keeps the car in the bay for the shortest stretch.
How we coat a new car at Buff & Beyond
Buff & Beyond is a Gyeon Certified Detailer. Every coating is applied in house by our full-time staff in climate-controlled bays, over paint we have corrected first. We have been working in Millstone since 2008, and our Ocean Township shop works the same way.
When you pick up the car, we tell you how long to wait before the first wash and how to wash it from then on.
New car coating questions
How soon after buying should I coat a new car?
As soon as you can schedule it. Book before the car sees a winter or a long road trip, so the paint is protected before the damage starts.
Does a new car need paint correction before coating?
Often a little. New paint can carry light swirls from transport and dealership handling. We inspect it first and polish only what needs it.
Can I coat a new car with a dealer protection package already on it?
Tell us when you send the form. We will look at what is on the paint and say what it needs before a coating can bond.
Will a coating protect against stone chips?
No. Paint protection film does that. The coating makes the whole car easier to wash and keeps contamination from bonding.
