What affects window tint cost

Window tint cost depends on the type of film, how many windows you tint, the vehicle, and whether old tint has to come off first. Every job is quoted on the specific car, so the useful question is what a quote should include, and this page answers it.
We quote each job on the car. Two cars that look alike can take very different amounts of time on the glass, and a number without the details would mislead you. Here is what moves the price of a tint job and how to compare quotes.
The type of film
Film is the biggest factor. Dyed film is the least expensive and the first to fade, bubble and turn purple. Carbon film costs more and holds up better. Ceramic film costs the most of the three, because the ceramic particles reject heat and ultraviolet light without fading or blocking signals.
At Buff & Beyond we install LLumar ceramic film. A cheaper quote for dyed film is a quote for a different product, and our page on why ceramic window tint is the best choice compares the types.
How many windows you tint
Coverage changes the price directly, since it changes the amount of film and the labor. We tint in sections.
- Window Strip. The top of the windshield.
- Front Two Windows. The driver and passenger windows.
- Full Windshield. The whole windshield.
- All Sides and Rear Window. Every other piece of glass.
You can tint the sides and rear for privacy and add the windshield for heat and glare. Tinting the whole car at once is the easiest way to get a matched result.
The vehicle
Size and shape change the work. A large SUV has more glass than a coupe. A steeply raked rear window needs the film shaped to fit the curve of the glass, which takes skill and time. A sliding rear window on a truck, a defroster grid and a lot of small quarter windows are all details that add steps.
This is why we ask for the year, make and model with every request. Two cars on the same shade can have quite different installs.
Old tint that has to come off
If the car already has failed tint, the old film has to be removed before new film goes on. That means peeling the film and cleaning the adhesive off every window, slow work that the new job depends on. Mention it when you ask for a quote so the time is counted in.
How to read a tint quote
When you compare quotes, line them up on the details and not only the total.
- The film. Is it dyed, carbon or ceramic, and from which brand?
- The coverage. Which windows are in the price, and is the windshield strip included?
- The shade. Does the quote name the exact shade for the front and the back?
- The install. Who does the work, and where?
- The warranty. What comes with the film and what does it cover?
A low total that leaves those blank is usually missing something. A tint job that fades or bubbles costs more in the end, since it has to be removed and redone.
What good value looks like
Tint is on the glass every day. Film that holds its color, keeps the cabin cooler and does not need replacing is the version worth paying for. Everything a quote saves on film or on install quality tends to come back as a second job.
Our full-time staff installs every job in house, in climate-controlled bays, and has done so at the Millstone shop since 2008. We also do paint protection film, ceramic coating and paint correction, and The Beyond Package brings film, coating and tint together on one car.
Getting a window tint quote in Millstone
You can find us at 600 Rike Drive in Millstone, and we also have a shop in Ocean Township. Send the form with your year, make and model, the windows you want covered and the shade you are leaning toward. If the car has old tint on it, say so.
We will come back with a quote for that car and go through shade options before anything is cut.
Window tint cost questions
Is ceramic tint more expensive than regular tint?
Yes. Ceramic film costs more than dyed film because it is a more advanced product. It also lasts, which is where the value shows up. Our page on whether ceramic window tint is worth it goes through that.
Why do tint quotes vary so much between shops?
Because the film, the coverage and the install differ. Compare what is in each quote before you compare totals.
Can I tint only some of the windows?
Yes. We tint in sections, so you can do the front doors to match the factory glass in the back, add a strip across the top of the windshield, or cover every window. The quote covers exactly the glass you choose, and more can be added later with the same film.
Does removing old tint add to the cost?
Yes, since removing film and cleaning the adhesive takes time on every window. Tell us about the old tint when you ask and it is part of the quote from the start.
